The benefits of ink dispensers have revolutionised the printing industry. Instead of an ink manufacturer pre-blending inks to hold in stock, printers can now quickly dispense any amount of any colour they need themselves, in their own ink blending facility located on-site. The 'just-in-time, just-enough' ink dispensing concept also ensures that only enough ink is blended for a particular print job, thus driving down a printers ink consumption and reducing waste. Printers can also work-off and re-mix 'press return' or waste inks from finished print runs into new print jobs, thus saving money and reducing waste even further.

Gravimetric dispensing technology has been used in the production of printing and packaging inks for some time.
