(Customer Press Release) Learoyd Packaging - February 2010

Learoyd choose Rexson as part of continued investment in quality, efficiency and quality

Learoyd Packaging Limited based in Burnley in the North West of England is a leading supplier of flexible packaging in the UK.

The company specialise in high quality flexographic print serving a number of markets, predominately in the food sector and have a significant presence in the fresh produce, bakery, chilled snacks and confectionery areas.

Learoyd have a well deserved reputation for producing printed packaging film and bags to the highest standards, and pride themselves on the quality and consistency of their product and high levels of customer service and satisfaction. Alan Heap, Production Manager of Learoyd Packaging, said “We relish the prospect of taking on a challenging job and meeting or exceeding the customer’s expectations”.

Since a management buy-out in 2003, the company have invested heavily in improving their capabilities in every area of the business. This includes the installation of two 8 colour presses, with another to be installed in 2010.

Allan Ferguson, Managing Director of Learoyd Packaging, said “Our aim was to be amongst the best flexographic printers in the UK, an ambition we have achieved. We must now retain that position, while continuing to push the boundaries of flexographic printing”. “Our investment strategy has been to support this”.

As part of Learoyd’s plan they have recently taken delivery of a new Rexson ColorPoint ink dispensing & management system. The ColorPoint allows greater control of ink management, by dispensing the correct amount of ink required for every print job, and utilising any press returns much more effectively. It will also report back on how much ink was issued to and returned from every print job.

The Rexson system interfaces with Learoyd’s MIS business system, allowing work programmes to be loaded directly into the Rexson system meaning production job ink requirements will appear automatically on the ColorPoint dispenser. The operator simply selects which inks he needs to dispense using the ColorPoints barcode scanner, thus boosting efficiency and eliminating errors. The ColorPoint also features an integral hazardous area label printer, a unique Rexson feature, to print ID labels for both dispensed inks and returned inks – ensuring no inks are lost, mislaid or misused.

The Rexson ColorPoint installation was conducted whilst the plant was running 24 hours 7 days a week and went seamlessly. This was achieved as a result of the strong partnership now fostered between Learoyd Packaging, Flint Inks and Rexson.

Learoyd Packaging chose Rexson as a preferred supplier due to its position in the market place as the leader in the field of accurate colour dispensing equipment. The visit to the Rexson factory to see the latest innovations cemented Learoyds choice. “We were very impressed with the latest product developments, it is clear that Rexson has listened to its customers’ needs” reports Alan Heap.
