Rexson Racing for 2008
This year we will be contesting in the New Era Club Championship - racing in the Sound of Thunder class on a fully race prepared and tuned Honda VTR1000 SP1.

MARCH
Sunday 30th Mallory Park Club Championships Round 1
Qualified 17th
With little or no practice due to work commitments and apalling weather, expectations weren't high going into the first round at Mallory Park. As luck would have it, the days weather was a real improvment - overnight rain was met with early morning sunshine and blue sky! Sound of Thunder riders were first out to qualify, with just 8 minutes in which to get a good lap in on a partly wet, partly dry track. Martin qualified 17th out of 36 riders, which was better than expected.
Race 1 - 20th
Starting off the grid for the warm up lap revealed terrible clutch problems which would make a good start almost impossible. Martin concentrated on not stalling the bike and getting away safely, albeit very slowly for the start of the race - hitting the first bend in a lowly 27th position. The next few laps were spent carving through the pack as best as he could. Several fallers brought out yellow flags (meaning no overtaking in these areas) which didnt help the cause! Martin crossed the line in 20th position. Bearing in mind the lack of practice combined with the clutch problems meant this position was better than expected.
Race 2 - 24th
Checking and adjusting the clutch between races didnt help the problems, and if anything, made things worse. Again the aim was just to get off the line without stalling, risking being hit from behind - a fate the befell Triumph rider Andrew Dawson in race 1 who was taken to hospital with a double fracture of his right leg. Safely away but this time Martin hit the first bend in an even more distant second to last position . A missed gear downshifting into the high speed Gerards bend on the next lap saw Martin drop further back to last place. Try as he might he was unable to make a pass stick on the riders in front and finished the race in last place. Disappointing - but relieved to have finished safely having enjoyed some good close racing with three riders on identical bikes.

APRIL
Weekend 19/20th Cadwell Park Club Championships Rounds 2 and 3
Qualified 22nd
A weekend to forget. Work and travel commitments meant no testing was done prior to this round, with the team unable to attend the friday practice day and Martin returning from the USA and arriving the night before the race - so it was a case of turn up and race! Make that turn up and race at a track we havent been to for 2 years! Additionally, problems with our generator meant we couldn't use our tyre warmers for qualifying, so it was out onto a cold racetrack with stone cold tyres to do 6 'hot laps'. Low expectations were met when Martin qualified 22nd out of 25, but we knew we had plenty more to come.
Race 1 - 24th
A decent start was followed 3 bends in by a loss of the bikes clutch action, meaning Martin struggling to downshift and eventually opting to lap using just 2 gears. he cruised around to finish in last place. Bike stripped and fault found, a custom part had been stripped of its thread and had been damaged. All we could do was repair as best we could and hope for the best as no spare part.
Race 2 - DNF; Technical
Again a decent start but soon apparent the bike was still not 100%. Rather than risk ruining the gearbox Martin pulled in after 4 laps. DNF
Race 3 - DNS;Technical
Race 4 - DNS;Technical
Practice sessions have been booked for Rockingham and Brands Hatch prior to the next round to hopefully get the bike running 100%
